Mazda MX-5 (ND) build guide

Skyactiv-G · 2.0 NA I4. What the stock hardware reliably supports, where it breaks first, and the fastest safe path to more.

The Mazda MX-5 (ND) makes 181 hp stock at roughly 2,350 lb (13 lb/hp). Its stock internals are good for about 320 hp, the fuel system for around 240 hp, and its naturally aspirated setup tops out around 205 hp without forced induction. Below is the limit sheet carbuildcheck analyzes against, plus the platform's documented weak points.

03 Where it breaks first
The ND1 6-speed is the fuse (~250 lb-ft). Boosted cars want the ND2 box, a soft launch habit, or both.
The ND is superb stock on track — tires and pads first give more lap time than power here.
04 The typical path

Intake → headers → tune → cams or forced induction. NA gains are honest but small; the big unlock is boost, and boost starts at the fuel system.
